WELCOME TO Hoover-Schrum MSD157

On behalf of the Hoover-Schrum Memorial School District 157 Board of Directors, Students, Administration, Faculty and Support Staff, welcome back! We are excited to begin the 2019-2020 school year and look forward to teaching the children entrusted in our care. It is my pleasure to welcome you to the start of the 2019-2020 school year and officially introduce myself to the greater community. I consider it a true privilege to have been appointed your new Superintendent of Schools for Hoover-Schrum Memorial.

I am committed to building upon past practices to ensure that current and future students have opportunities to explore their interests and find their true passions. Let me take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about myself.  I have worked in the Calumet City area for 16 years as principal of TF North, so I am very familiar with our students’ siblings and family members. Prior to working at TF North, I served as principal of Proviso East and Hales Franciscan High Schools. My experience is rich in leadership and working with diverse learners.  I deeply believe in a quality of a comprehensive education for all students, which is created through a positive and healthy relationships between parents, staff, and students.
I take very seriously that you have entrusted the young people of our community to our care and expect our EXCEPTIONAL staff to give their best every day. I was fortunate enough to have had several weeks this past spring and summer to get acclimated.
I met with teachers, visited classrooms, met with community members, and diligently work with our leadership team developing work goals that will maintain our excellence and drive us toward continuous improvement. Through each conversation, I’ve learned more about sources of district and community pride, as well as areas that may need enhancement.

As I spent time over the last few months listening, learning, and observing, I kept having this reoccurring theme of “What if.”  What if our district could reach its’ potential? What if all students have an equal opportunity to learn?  These and other questions are essential to the potential pathway to our success.  I believe that growth and success first come through questioning, envisioning, and working toward a common theme.  So, I say to all of you to begin to ask the question of yourself and our students, “What if?” and ultimately, Why not?  I say to all of you, what if Hoover-Schrum Memorial was the beacon of educational excellence?  And then, I say why not? Together we can make a difference and accomplish great things. I am fully committed to creating collaborative partnerships with our students, staff, families and our communities, and leading our district as it becomes the “beacon of educational excellence” in the future one student, one teacher, and one parent at a time.

For some of these discussions and with the help of an outstanding leadership team I was able to develop four district goals to support our ultimate goals of improving student experiences and outcome.  One of my personal goals as your Superintendent is to maintain and grow a rigorous teaching and learning environment that provides every student with a sense of belonging while helping students to advance intellectually, emotionally, and socially.

Thank you for visiting our website, and thank you for your support of District 157.  If you are not a supporter, now is the time!
